CHARLESTON, W.Va. — U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., will continue to serve on the Senate Republican whip team.
Capito will be a deputy whip under Majority Whip John Thune of South Dakota; Capito has been part of the whip team since joining the Senate in January 2015.
“I’m excited and grateful for the opportunity to continue my role as a deputy whip — especially under the capable and effective leadership of Senator Thune,” Capito said in a press release.
“He and Republican leaders have a proven track record of addressing our country’s challenges and creating new opportunities for American families, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to build on the momentum of last Congress.”
Idaho Sen. Mike Crapo will serve as chief deputy whip. Other members include Roy Blunt of Missouri, John Cornyn of Texas, Cory Gardner of Colorado, James Lankford of Oklahoma, Martha McSally of Arizona, Rob Portman of Ohio, Mitt Romney of Utah, Tim Scott of South Carolina, Thom Tillis of North Carolina and Todd Young of Indiana.
Cornyn served as majority whip between January 2015 and the start of the 116th Congress earlier this month.
