Marion County couple pleads separately in 2017 Taylor County fatal shooting

GRAFTON, W.Va. — A Marion County couple have pleaded on separate charges relating to a 2017 shooting in Taylor County.

Justin Edward Clark, 28, pleaded guilty Tuesday to second degree murder in the shooting death of 39-year-old Frank Newbraugh.

Clark and Samantha Adrea Dakon-Clark, 30, of Fairmont, were charged in Newbrough’s death in August 2017. Investigators said Justin Clark shot Newbrough in the back while he sat in the front seat of their car while four children were in the vehicle.

Dakon-Clark had gone to meet Newbrough to “help the victim with narcotics,” according to the prosecution.

She pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and one count of child neglect earlier this month.

Newbrough’s body was found near the Taylor County Animal Shelter on Riverside Road on the evening of June 23, 2017 — several hours after the reported shooting.

A pre-sentence report has yet to be completed, and the sentencing hearing has not yet been scheduled.
