‘Fantastic turnout’ for Procter & Gamble’s first on-site job fair in Berkeley County

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A Procter & Gamble (P&G) official is pleased with the turn out from the first on-site job fair at their new Tabler Station plant in Berkeley County.

“This is incredible,” said P&G Human Resources Department Leader Ryan Moore while scanning a cafeteria full of applicants. He estimated about 300 people went through their doors during the two-hour event Thursday night.

“This is a fantastic turnout. We’re really excited with the amount of people who have arrived to learn and get educated about the type of career paths that we offer. We’re really excited to be able to connect with the community and for the first time have an event like this here at our location.”

P&G has already employed a little under 800 people for the over two million square foot facility. With the help of Thursday night’s job fair, Moore said they hope to hire an additional 300 within the next 18 months. Available jobs include plant technicians, quality control analysts and laboratory analysts.

Conveniently located off of I-81 exit 8 along Tabler Station Road, the 450 acre site will help P&G get products to 80% of its retail customers within one day.

When completely operational, the Tabler Station plant will manufacture:

  • Aussie
  • Bounce fabric softeners
  • Dawn
  • Head & Shoulders
  • Herbal Essences
  • Joy
  • Olay
  • Old Spice
  • Pantene
  • Swiffer
  • Tide
  • Vidal Sassoon

“We’ll have over 1,000 employees assigned here,” explained Moore. “So with four different teams, on a twelve-hour rotating shift schedule, we’ll probably have on a weekend night shift maybe 175-200 people working but during maybe Monday through Friday with additional support staff things here could be up to 400 people at a time.”

Helping to accommodate the employees is the “Employee Resource Center”. Located at the front of the plant’s main building, the hub includes dining, health services, a gym and locker rooms. It is also where the security, human resources, management and IT offices are located.

Among the crowd was Paul Gonzalez, a previous DC commuter making a career change. He told MetroNews he was impressed by the sprawling facility the moment he pulled into the parking lot.

“I was pretty surprised at the size at the size of the facility. It’s actually huge. I think overall, they did a real good job on presenting. Their opportunities are pretty unique. A little different than I expected.”

According to their website, entry level employees at Procter & Gamble’s Tabler Station facility start at making $17.50 per hour. The company also lists their average annual wage as $48,500 within five years of employment. Benefits include 11 paid holidays, vacation time, health, life and dental insurance.
