HAMBLETON, W.Va. — Despite not practicing for three days due to winter weather, Lincoln’s offense was sharp from the opening tip as the Cougars claimed a 74-63 win at Tucker County.
Lincoln scored 26 points in the first quarter, jumping out to a 12-point lead. “I was shocked for us to get off to that start because we haven’t formally practiced since Tuesday,” said Lincoln head coach Rob Hawkins.
“We were glad to get a game in but obviously we have a lot to work on.”
Hannah Ferris led the way with 20 points for Lincoln (12-2). Victoria Sturm added 18. Allison Rockwell chipped in with 16 and Brynne Williams scored ten.
Tucker County (11-5) was led by Terra Kuhn’s 18-point effort. Riley Evans added 14 and London Hood scored 10.
Lincoln closed the first half on a 7-0 run to take a 43-28 lead. The Mountain Lions made several mini-runs in the second half but could never trim the margin to single digits.
“Anytime you can come up on the mountain, they have a really good team, and they’re going to play hard every night. To come out of here with a win, we are extremely happy,” Hawkins said.
