Checks from NuWave settlement to soon be sent

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The process to distribute more than $235,00 from a settlement between the state and a kitchen hardware manufacturing and sales company has begun.

The West Virginia Attorney General’s Office previously reached a $320,000 settlement with NuWave, LLC, alleging the company and its vendors were not registered as telemarketers with the state Tax Department.

According to Attorney General Patrick Morrisey, the company’s “buy one, get one free” offers on a particular product were deceptive and associates used “high-pressure sales pitches.” The company allegedly increasing shipping and processing fees that covered the cost of the second item.

Morrisey said more than 5,400 customers will receive restitution checks in the coming weeks.
