Former Cabell County firefighters charged with arson

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Five former Cabell County volunteer firefighters face charges of arson following a series of fires last year.

Ian Hockenberry, 21, Travis Bailey, 29, and Brett Ray, 20, are accused of setting fires at abandoned residences around Barboursville in early 2018. Authorities charged the individuals with first-degree arson.

Charleston “Chase” People, 19, and Glenn Harman, allegedly set fire to a nonresidential structure near Lesage in early 2018. They face charges of second-degree arson.

The arrests follow an investigation from the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office. All five people lost their positions with the fire department before the charges were filed.
