FAIRMONT, W.Va. — A Marion County Grand Jury indicted 22 individuals Tuesday, including five men involved in the September 2018 murder of Luka Grabb.
Charles Carpenter, 39, of Shinnston, Vernon Carpenter, 42, of Morgantown, Russell Kirk, 37, of Fairmont, David Uphold, 34, of Rivesville, and James Ryan Vincent, 30, of Fairmont, are each charged with first degree murder, conspiracy and malicious assault.
According to criminal complaints filed with the Marion County Circuit Clerk’s Office, Vincent and Grabb were involved in a verbal altercation during the early morning hours of Sept. 25, 2018.
Vincent then allegedly shot Grabb multiple times, and he allegedly directed a clean-up and the removal of Grabb from his residence.
According to the complaint, Grabb was then left on Pinchgut Hollow Road, Fairmont, “where he eventually succumbed to his gunshot wounds.”
Also indicted was Austin Mays, 18, of Fairmont, charged with first degree murder in a different death. Mays is charged in the May 2018 shooting of Dustin Meyers.
Meyers was found shot to death in his vehicle at around 10 p.m. May 21, 2018.
Authorities said the vehicle was found on its side in Guyses Creek, originally thought to be a single-vehicle accident. The vehicle went over an embankment and into a creek off of Pinchgut Hollow Road.
