RACHEL, W.Va. — North Marion closed out each of the first two quarters on lengthy scoring runs to avenge a December loss to Fairmont Senior, winning 77-63 on senior night at NMHS.

The Huskies scored the final eight points of the first quarter and the final seven points of the second quarter to build a 40-30 halftime lead. North Marion extended that cushion to 16 points after three quarters and that lead was never threatened in the closing minutes.

Fairmont Senior defeated North Marion 80-66 on December 21st, accounting for the Huskies’ only loss to an in-state opponent. “We played with energy and we were making shots,” said North Marion head coach Mike Parrish.

“We were attacking the basket and in the first game we didn’t do that. We didn’t play aggressively defensively or offensively. That was our plan coming in — to be in attack mode on offense and defense.”

Hannah Shriver led North Marion with 25 points while Taylor Buonamici added 21. Anysa Jordan led the Polar Bears with a game-high 31-point effort.

With the win, North Marion secured the Big 10 Conference championship.

The Polar Bears (17-3) and the Huskies (18-4) have both made strong cases to be the top seed in their sectional tournament. Pairings will be announced Tuesday.
