Junior kicker Luke Hogan leaves West Virginia football team

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — Kicker Luke Hogan has left the West Virginia football team, the school confirmed Monday.

Hogan, a walk-on from Keller, Texas, was entering his redshirt junior season. He appeared in five games as a kickoff specialist in 2018 and had one touchback on 13 kickoffs. He also recorded one tackle.

Hogan remained behind junior Evan Staley on the depth chart, and with scholarship freshman Kolton McGhee arriving this fall, Hogan’s chances of getting on the field appeared to be further limited.

Hogan began his collegiate career as a walk-on at Houston before transferring to West Virginia in 2017. He would be eligible to play immediately at the FCS or Division II level.
