Fayette County woman accused of theft while victim was suffering heart attack

MOUNT HOPE, W.Va. —  Police have arrested a Fayette County woman who allegedly took advantage of a person during a medical emergency.

Tonia Jackson

According to investigators, Tonia Renee Jackson, 45, of Mount Hope, was visiting the home of a female acquaintance, when the woman collapsed and was rushed to the hospital.  Police say Jackson then stole jewelry and bank cards from inside the victim’s house, sold the jewelry at a local pawn shop and withdrew more than $1,000 from the victim’s bank account, over the course of several days, causing the account to be overdrawn.

The homeowner, who had suffered a heart attack requiring surgery, told authorities she discovered the thefts after she was released from the hospital.

Jackson was charged with burglary, grand larceny, four counts of transfer of stolen property, and 22 counts of computer fraud.

She is being held at Southern Regional Jail under a $50,000 bond.
