MOREHEAD, Ky. – Darius Hill’s three-run homer in the top of the first set the tone as West Virginia rolled to its fifth-straight win by beating host Morehead State 9-3 on Tuesday afternoon.
Hill wasn’t the only Mountaineer to send one over the fence. Paul McIntosh deposited a solo shot to right-center in the fifth, and Tyler Doanes continued his hot streak with a two-run homer to right in the eighth inning.
Doanes has homered in consecutive games, and displayed power to all fields in the process. The sophomore second baseman pulled one out to left against Kent State on Sunday, then went to the opposite field for his home run on Tuesday. Doanes had one career home run prior to his recent outburst.
McIntosh led the Mountaineer offense, going 3-for-5 with an RBI double. Like Doanes on Sunday, McIntosh was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.
Junior left-hander Nick Snyder (2-1) picked up the win in his longest start of the season. Snyder struck out 10 Eagles while allowing two runs on four hits.
Beau Lowery earned his second save by protecting the lead for the final three innings.
Alex Garbrick (1-1) was tagged for the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits and four walks in just 2 2/3 innings.
The Mountaineers (10-5) and Eagles (10-5) will complete their two-game series Wednesday afternoon.
