Man struck, killed by tractor trailer on I-81 in Martinsburg

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Berkeley County Sheriff Curtis Keller has confirmed a man is dead after being struck by a tractor trailer on I-81.

Dispatchers received the first calls at 5:10 Tuesday evening to the area of the exit 12 off ramp on the northbound side.

Witnesses told deputies the man walked in and out of traffic multiple times before he was hit. Two out of three northbound lanes remained closed as crews cleared the scene.

The closure caused backups south of the crash scene past exit 8. Nearby Routes 45 and 11 also remained congested through the evening commute.

No further details are available.
