CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — A Jefferson County man has been charged for the weekend murder of a Loudoun County, Virginia man.
Dale Wright, 50 of Charles Town, allegedly shot Jeffrey Evans, 72, during a fight in a gravel lot on Castleman Road at around 11:15 Sunday morning.
The area is in Clarke County, Virginia east of Berryville and less than five miles south of the Jefferson County, West Virginia line.
According to Virginia State Police, Evans fled the scene in his pickup truck after being shot. At approximately 11:24 am, Evans crashed his truck at the intersection of Castleman Road and Route 7.
Several motorists told troopers they saw a man, later identified as Wright, running toward Evans’ pickup truck after it crashed.
Evans was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was then taken to the Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office in Manassas.
West Virginia State Police located and arrested Wright Wednesday in Charles Town. He faces charges of first degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
