Turnpike crash claims life

CAMP CREEK, W.Va. — A Wednesday afternoon crash on the West Virginia Turnpike claimed a driver’s life, authorities said.

The wreck occurred on Interstate 77 northbound in Mercer County near the Camp Creek exit.

According to state police troopers, a driver of a pick-up truck ran into the back of a moving tractor-trailer at about 4:30 p.m. The pick-up went off the turnpike and over an embankment. The truck stopped when it slammed into a large tree. The driver died at the scene.

The victim’s name was not immediately released.
