Fatal crash after disturbance call at Wheeling bar

WHEELING, W.Va. — A Sunday morning disturbance at a Wheeling bar resulted in a fatal crash and the collision of two police cruisers.

According to Ohio County Sheriff Thomas Howard, Wheeling police were called to Generations Pub at about 2:10 a.m. Sunday. They were investigating a disturbance call when a truck with no headlghts on took off. Police began to pursue and two Wheeling Police Department cruisers collided. The officers suffered minor injuries.

A short time later, the truck was located in the Pike Street/Main Street area of North Wheeling. In a Monday morning news release, Sheriff Howard said the truck was traveling at a high rate of speed, went airborne, and crashed through the roof of a garage of a former detailing shop at 452 Main Street. The driver, identified as Gerald Paul Dural Jr., 35, of Sunset, La., was pronounced dead at the scene.

Howard said Dural was involved in the bar fight.

The Ohio County Sheriff’s Department and Wheeling police are investigating.
