Raleigh County authorities looking for SUV, driver involved in fatal hit-and-run

COAL CITY, W.Va. — The Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office is searching for the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run incident Saturday near Coal City.

The victim, identified as Eric Hopkins, reportedly was walking along Coal City Road between Pemberton and Coal City at approximately 11 pm, when he was struck. According to investigators, a witness at the scene stated that a dark-colored SUV traveling from Pemberton hit the victim, did not stop, and fled the scene. Hopkins later was pronounced dead, as a result of his injuries.

Sheriff’s deputies say the vehicle involved likely has damage to the front end.
