Man might have set himself on fire, Charleston Police say

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Charleston Police say a man died under mysterious circumstances.

The man’s body was found about 2:30 a.m. today behind Kanawha Mall near Gabe’s.

“It was initially thought he had been electrocuted. However, based on conditions at the scene, it is possible that he accidentally set himself on fire,” Charleston Police stated in a news release.

No foul play is suspected, according to investigators.

The body could not be identified, the police said. An autopsy will be performed by the state Medical Examiners Office.

The Criminal Investigation Division is handling the incident. Anyone with information is asked to call the Charleston Police Department at 304-348-8111.
