FAIRMONT, W.Va. — A Fairmont man pleaded guilty Wednesday on a charge related to a 2018 shooting death.

Austin Mays admitted to murdering Dustin Myers. Mays was originally charged with first-degree murder, but the prosecution reduced the charge to second-degree murder.

Mays said in court he was driving down Pinchgut Hollow Road with Myers and another person when he fired his gun, hitting Myers in the back of the head. He also said the car crashed, and he then fired the gun into the side of Myers’ head.

Mays agreed to a 40-year prison term. He will be sentenced on May 14.
