Kanawha County Commission: Carper has successful kidney operation

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Kanawha County Commission President Kent Carper is recovering following a kidney transplant operation on Saturday.

According to a release by the commission, Carper had battled a “significant illness” involving his kidneys and the operation was “successful.”

The commission said the surgery was in Charleston and was “life-saving.”

“Commissioner Carper is a dear friend and I have been on the Commission with him for the past 23 years, my wife and I wish him a speedy recovery and will keep him and his family in our thoughts and prayers throughout this process,” stated Commissioner Henry C. Shores.

Commissioner Ben Salango said in a release, “My wife and I are pleased the surgery was a success for our friend, Commissioner Carper.  He and his family remain in our thoughts.”
