CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — A Harrison County assistant principal accused of bullying a transgender study has filed a civil complaint related to the county Board of Education not renewing his contract.
The board voted last month not to renew Lee Livengood’s contract when it expires June 30. Livengood currently works at Liberty High School.
Livengood allegedly bullied Michael Critchfield while the student was in a male restroom last November. Michael identifies as a male.
Livengood’s legal counsel said the school board should grant Livengood a contract or at least continuing contract status based on the 2017-2018 school year when Livengood was first entitled to such contract.
Harrison County Superintendent Mark Manchin told MetroNews in March the decision not to renew Livengood’s contract was not connected to the alleged incident. He added Livengood is a probationary employee.
