Police search for suspect in Charleston shooting

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A woman was shot in the leg by a man outside a Charleston church Sunday evening, police said.

Erin Spradling, 36, told police she and her adult daughter had an Easter evening meal at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church at the corner of Kanawha Boulevard and Elizabeth Street.

According to Spradling, once they left the church, at about 6 p.m., a man who was also there eating got into an argument with her daughter. He produced a gun at shot at them along Elizabeth Street. Spradling suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. Her daughter was not injured.

Spradling told police she had seen the man before but didn’t know his name.  He’s described as a black male in his late 20’s, with a beard, wearing a red sweatshirt and a black jacket.

Spradling is in stable condition at CAMC General.
