Yeager Airport sees increase in enplanements

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Enplanements are up at Yeager Airport.

Officials said enplanements have increased by 7.9 percent over the last year.

Airport director Terry Sayre credited the growth to multiple factors.

“The West Virginia economy is doing a lot better,” he said. “Our marketing department is doing a lot better. We’re working hard here in the local community to form partnerships here. I think it’s just a combination of everything.”

Sayre said the increase is additionally exciting as summer draws closer.

“Just to put it in perspective, this time last year we were up from the year before,” he added. “We’ve been on an uptick for more than a year now. Everybody is doing a good job.”

Additional opportunities may be coming to the airport; Sayre said the Marshall University officials will vote in June on establishing an aviation school at the airport.
