Charges filed in Nicholas County double murder

SUMMERSVILLE, W.Va. — A Nicholas County man is now charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with a double shooting death from over the weekend in Drennen.

Roger Blankenship, of Swiss, allegedly shot and killed his estranged wife Irene Blankenship and her boyfriend Doug Hypes Saturday on the front porch of Hypes’ mobile home at around 5 p.m. Saturday.

Troopers said Blankenship shot himself in the face but survived. He’s hospitalized. The criminal complaint said after Blankenship shot himself he drove to his own home where police later arrived. They said Blankenship shook his head in the affirmative when asked if he shot his wife or anyone else.

Troopers said the Blankenships were getting a divorce.
