MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia defensive tackle Tyrese Allen has entered the NCAA transfer portal.

Allen is a redshirt freshman from Paintsville, Ky. who did not play last season. The 6-foot-3, 297-pound defensive tackle was a three-star signee in the Class of 2018. He was behind Darius Stills and Brennon Thrift on the depth chart.

WVU coach Neal Brown has said multiple times the Mountaineers are looking for additional depth on the defensive line from a transfer.

Allen’s younger brother, Jaylyn, is a class of 2020 linebacker who recently committed to FCS member Eastern Kentucky. Tyrese would be eligible to play immediately if he transfers down to the FCS level.

Allen is still able to return to West Virginia after entering his name in the portal, which simply allows other schools to contact him. Receiver Marcus Simms also entered the portal this week, tweeting his intention to leave WVU.
