Junior college offensive lineman John Hughes signs with West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Neal Brown has addressed West Virginia’s need for additional depth on the offensive line with one of the two remaining scholarships in this year’s signing class.

John Hughes, a 6-foot-4, 305-pound lineman from Navarro (Texas) College, signed with the Mountaineers on Sunday, the school announced. Hughes has three seasons of eligibility remaining plus a potential redshirt year.

Hughes played in 11 games at both right tackle and right guard. The Bulldogs had sufficient protection to be the No. 1 passing offense in the NJCAA in 2018. The Carrolton, Texas native chose West Virginia over offers from Florida State and Houston.

West Virginia has two starters returning from last season’s offensive line in left tackle Colton McKivitz and right guard Josh Sills. The Mountaineers will likely go into August training camp with competitions at the other three spots on the offensive line.
