Harrison County man identified as victim in Marion County wreck

MARION COUNTY, W.Va. — A Harrison County man died from a crash near Mannington.

The single-vehicle crash happened near Whetstone Road after 6 p.m. on Sunday. A passing driver told authorities the driver involved was unconscious in the vehicle.

Authorities identified the driver as 54-year-old Lloyd Riffle, of Wallace. They said Riffle was traveling east on Whetstone Road when the car went through a right-hand curve. It continued to travel along the guardrail before landing on a downhill embankment, stopping after hitting tree branches.

Troopers noted there were no signs the vehicle’s brakes were applied before the crash.
