Man charged in Nicholas double murder now in jail

FLATWOODS, W.Va. — A man charged in connection with a double murder in Nicholas County is now in jail without bail.

Roger Blankenship

Roger Blankenship, 56, of Swiss, was released from the hospital Friday and booked in the Central Regional Jail in Flatwoods.

Blankenship allegedly shot and killed his estranged wife, Irene Blankenship and her boyfriend Doug Hypes, back on April 27 on the front porch of Hypes’ residence in Drennen.

The criminal complaint said after Blankenship killed the pair he shot himself and then drove to his own home where police later arrived. They said Blankenship shook his head in the affirmative when asked if he shot his wife or anyone else. Blankenship’s mug shot shows injuries to his face.

Troopers said the Blankenships were getting a divorce.
