West Virginia Penitentiary hosts skill exercises

MOUNDSVILLE, W.Va. — The former state penitentiary hosted this week more than 1,230 correctional officers and officials for four days of exercises and skill exercises.

The Mock Prison Riot featured individuals from 33 states and 22 countries to compete in tests of team and individual skills.

“The men and women of West Virginia corrections provided a wonderful learning experience for the domestic and international attendees,” said Jeff Sandy, the secretary of Military Affairs and Public Safety. “Working with the U.S. State Department, foreign embassies, and interpreters makes this large-scale event a challenge and our state employees rose to the occasion.

The Michigan Department of Corrections won this year’s Tactical Skills Team Competition.
