Charges possible in connection with double fatal on U.S. Route 35

BUFFALO, W.Va. — State Police released the names Monday of a husband and wife killed in a weekend crash on U.S. Route 35 in Putnam County.

According to troopers, William and Judy Sargent died when the passenger vehicle they were in was struck by an oncoming tractor trailer Saturday afternoon near the highway’s intersection with Shamrock Road.

Information released by state police Monday did not indicate where the Sargents were from or their ages.

The couple’s young daughters survived the crash and remained hospitalized in Charleston Monday in critical condition.

Investigators said the tractor trailer crossed the center line and struck the Sargent’s vehicle head on.

The crash is still under investigation and citations and charges could be forthcoming against the truck driver, according to troopers.
