CHARLESTON, W.Va. — More than two dozen state agencies were on hand for the West Virginia Division of Personnel’s annual State Government Career Fair on Wednesday.

The fair was in coordination with WorkForce West Virginia at the Culture Center on the State Capitol campus.

Sheryl Webb, the Director of the state Division of Personnel worked as the host of the fair and was happy with the turnout, citing individuals from all walks of life on hand.

“It’s an opportunity for people that are looking for jobs, may be either to change a career path or maybe they are unemployed,” she said. “They can come out and see what types of positions we have for the state.”

Webb said about 25 agencies participated in the fair with a magnitude of positions available including Customer Service Representatives with the Division of Motor Vehicles, Transportation Workers and Engineers with the Division of Transportation, Clerical Employees and Engineers with the Department of Environmental Protection, Child Protective Service Workers and Nurses with the Department of Health and Human Resources, and Correctional Officers with the Division of Corrections.

Other agencies involved include State Tax Department, the Offices of the Insurance Commissioner, the Department of Commerce (i.e. Division of Natural Resources and WorkForce West Virginia), the Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety (i.e. Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation and State Police), the Public Service Commission, and the Department of Administration (i.e. Office of Technology and the Division of Personnel).

Webb said the state is seeing some significant vacancies in the critical needs departments, especially with correctional officers.

Employers from all agencies were on hand to speak with potential candidates as well as employment counselors.

Webb wants people to know that this career fair on Wednesday is not the only opportunity to apply for a state job.

“We definitely want people to apply online through the Division of Personnel’s website,” she said. “We are encouraging people to go there, look for available positions and look for employment opportunities. Search for the jobs that are available.”
