Former corrections officer charged for alleged drug smuggling

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A former corrections officer at the South Central Regional Jail has been charged after allegedly attempting to smuggle methamphetamine into the South Central Regional Jail.

John Edward Roach II, 47, of Charleston, is accused of taking $2,000 to transfer four ounces of methamphetamine into the facility last month.

Before he entered the jail, authorities arrested Roach.

He has been charged with a federal drug trafficking crime, and faces a maximum sentenced of 40 years in prison.
