Multi-vehicle accident leaves part of I-70 near Wheeling shutdown

DALLAS PIKE, W.Va. — A four-vehicle accident has caused major delays on Interstate 70 near Wheeling Wednesday evening.

West Virginia 511 said that both eastbound lanes on 70 at mile marker 11 are closed as of 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Ohio County Sheriff Tom Howard told WTOV-9 TV that one individual in the accident suffered major leg injuries while others in the accident had minor injuries. One of the vehicles in the accident was a tractor-trailer.

The West Virginia Division of Highways has announced it has shut down exit ramps 5, 10 and 11 along 70 due to the crash.

Howard also told local media that the interstate will likely be shut down for hours.
