Deputies identify Kanawha County pedestrian killed Friday morning

CEDAR GROVE, W.Va. . — A woman is dead after she was struck by a vehicle while walking early Friday morning. The incident happened about 5 a.m. along Kellys Creek Road in Kanawha County not far from the community of Cedar Grove.

Deputies have identified the victim as Lisa Buckley, 41, of Cedar Grove.

“One pedestrian of two who were walking was struck by a truck,” said Sgt. Brian Humphreys of the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department. “It’s still under investigation as they try to determine where everything occurred and how things unfolded.”

Buckley and the other woman were apparently out for a routine walk and the driver was headed to work. According to Humphreys there was no evidence of drugs or alcohol and the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Although there were strong thunderstorms in the region around the time of the accident, investigators do not believe they played a role.

“I don’t believe the weather played a role, but the light affected things because it was still dark,” Humphreys said. “The storms started about the time the first responders were getting to the scene.”
