Justice orders state resources to help fight storage tank fire

FRIENDLY, W.Va. — Gov. Jim Justice ordered state resources to help battle a natural gas storage fire in Tyler County Saturday.

According to the governor’s office, lightning struck a 1 million gallon condensate tank owned by Dominion Resources near Friendly Saturday afternoon at about 1 o’clock. The tank was still burning Saturday night but no product had been released.

Justice said state Department of Environmental Protection Secretary Austin Caperton notified him of the fire. State resources assisting include  the National Guard and state Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

According to a release from the governor’s office,  “Multiple WVDEP response teams have been dispatched and are en route to assist with the cleanup.

“Local fire departments are working to suppress the fire. No injuries have been reported.”
