Strong storms leave behind damage, power outages

WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — A line of strong storms moved across central and southern West Virginia counties Wednesday afternoon leaving behind a path of damage.

One of the hardest hit areas was Mingo County where widespread damage was reported. Part of a roof came off a bar in Williamson and damaged two parked vehicles.

The same system moved through Beckley where 60 mph winds were reported. A storm cell earlier Wednesday knocked down trees in Point Pleasant near the Ohio River.

Appalachian Power reported more than 14,600 customers in 20 counties without service at 5 p.m. Wednesday. Most of the outages were in Wyoming, Mingo and Cabell counties.

There were no injuries reported in connection with the storms.

Meteorologists said the active weather pattern was expected to subside Wednesday night but the chance for storms would increase for northern counties Thursday morning.
