Jefferson County man sentenced for shooting, breaking into home with eight occupants

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — A Jefferson County man accused of shooting inside of a home with eight people inside could face decades in prison.

Jefferson County Prosecutor Matt Harvey announced Devin Collins, 22 of Charles Town, was previously found guilty by a jury on charges of attempted murder in the first degree, sixteen counts of wanton endangerment, one count of use of a firearm during the commission of a felony, one count of burglary, and one count of destruction of property.

On November 8, 2016, Collins used an AR-15 to shoot his way into a home. His ex-girlfriend was among the eight inside.

Collins then fired his gun eleven more times to get into a bedroom where three victims were hiding.

The jury’s verdict says Collins committed the act in an attempt to murder two people he believed were responsible for the breakup.

“This family can finally begin the healing process after being subjected to a night of terror,” said Prosecutor Matthew Harvey.

Collins was sentenced on Friday. He faces up to 61 years in prison.
