Pedestrian struck and killed in Nicholas County

RICHWOOD, W.Va. — A Nicholas County man died Wednesday, when he was struck by a car while reportedly walking in the middle of a road.

The driver of the vehicle told sheriff’s deputies he was not able to stop in time to avoid hitting the victim, later identified as Robert Galford, 62, of Richwood, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

No arrests were made in connection with the incident, which remains under investigation.

A report released by the Nicholas County Sheriff’s Office stated the accident occurred in the Middletown area near Richwood, but did not specify the name of the road.

The victim’s name was released after his family notified.
