FOLLANSBEE, W.Va. — Large flames and heavy smoke were seen billowing from the Mountain State Carbon coke plant on Saturday night in Brooke County but officials said it was a controlled fire.
Plant workers noted because of a power failure there caused by storms, flare stacks were used to prevent pollution.
The large fire could be seen from Ohio and West Virginia side of the river at the plant that sits on Route 2, as local residents called it in.
Local fire departments reported to the scene in an attempt to cool and reduce the flames.
