Man leads deputies on high-speed chase through Raleigh County with toddler in back seat

ECCLES, W.Va. — A routine traffic stop in Raleigh County Monday led to a series of charges against a man who led authorities on a pursuit in the Eccles area, while his two-year child was in the back seat of his car.

The incident began when Keith Lusk, 38, of Fairdale was stopped by a deputy on Harper Road. According to the sheriff’s office, Lusk become belligerent, refused to exit the vehicle, and stated he was driving with a revoked license. Lusk reportedly then fled from the traffic stop and drove on Harper Road toward Fairdale at over 80 miles per hour, causing other vehicles to swerve off the road to avoid being struck. The pursuit ended when the suspect got out of his car and ran into a wooded area, where he was captured by the deputy.

Lusk was charged with driving with a revoked license resulting from prior DUI charges, child neglect resulting in injury, fleeing with reckless indifference, improper registration, obstructing an officer, and fleeing an officer on foot. He is being held at Southern Regional Jail under a $50,000 bond.

The nature of the injuries to the child was not disclosed.
