TERRY, W.Va. — A 16-year-old boy drowned in the New River Friday morning, according to the National Park Service.
The boy was swimming with friends at the McCreery boat launch near the Raleigh County community of Terry at about 7 a.m. when he apparently got caught in a current, NPS spokesperson Julena Campbell said.
The body was located at about midday by search and rescue teams at about the same spot as where the boy was last seen by friends.
