One dead in Harrison County standoff

HARRISON COUNTY, W.Va. — A man who allegedly attacked his estranged wife after she filed a domestic violence petition against him died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to investigators.

The man’s body was found on Saturday afternoon after a nearly three-hour standoff involving several different law enforcement agencies at a home in Bridgeport.

Bridgeport Police said the man forced his way into the home with a loaded handgun and assaulted the woman before she was able to escape.

The suspect was not being publicly identified as of early Sunday afternoon.

Along with Bridgeport Police, deputies with the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department, several SWAT Teams and Bridgeport Fire and Rescue were part of the emergency response.
