Two Hedgesville men killed in Virginia crash

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Virginia State Police confirm two men from Berkeley County are dead and a third is recovering following a crash.

The accident was reported at 1:23 Friday afternoon at the 123 mile marker of I-95 northbound near Fredericksburg in Rockingham County.

Frederick Thomas, 47, and Robert Rutherford Junior, 45, both of Hedgesville died at the scene. The driver, also from Hedgesville, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

The SUV left the roadway on the right shoulder and struck a guardrail before overturning several times, according to a Virginia State Police press release.

Troopers have confirmed none of the men were wearing seatbelts.
