CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A man charged last weekend in the death of his wife died of an apparent overdose Friday evening, according to Charleston police.
Frank Cantley was out of jail after charges were dropped in the murder case earlier this week. Prosecutors said the cause of Stephanie Cantley’s death wouldn’t be known before her husband’s scheduled preliminary hearing. The charges could have been refiled at some point.
Police responded to Cantley’s house on Tinder Avenue Friday evening. They said it appeared to be an overdose death.
Cantley originally told 911 last weekend that his wife died of an overdose but later said he killed her because he was mad at her.
