Human remains discovered in Raleigh County

SURVEYOR, W.Va. — The Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the discovery of human remains during the weekend in a wooded area near Surveyor, west of Beckley.

According to a statement released Monday by the sheriff’s office, deputies have been searching the area for identifying information and evidence of a possible crime, since the remains were located Saturday.

Neither the gender nor the approximate age of the deceased person is known.

The remains have been sent to the West Virginia State Medical Examiner’s office in Charleston.
