Beckley VAMC to host mental health summit

BECKLEY, W.Va. — The US Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Raleigh County will host a mental health summit of medical professionals at the National Mine Health & Safety Academy near Beckley, in August.

The topic of the forum will be “Suicide and Suicide Prevention in Unique Populations.”

Among those scheduled to speak at the event are Beckley VA Medical Center Health Administration Service Line Chief Kevin Pannell, Program Coordinator for the Substance Use Disorder Consult Liaison Service at Ruby Memorial Hospital Thomas Drvar, Behavioral Health Director for New River Health Hamlet Smith, US Military Veteran Employee Advisory Committee Vice-Chairman Jared Towner, Beckley VA Medical Center Interim Mental Health Service Line Chief Debra Lilly, and Beckley VA Medical Center Director Amy Parsons.

The summit begins at 8 a.m., Aug. 16, and will be open to veterans and their families at no cost. Attendees must have valid ID to enter the Mine Academy property.
