DOT announces more road projects as low bidder for I-70 Bridges Project identified

WHEELING, W.Va. — The West Virginia Department of Transportation has announced an apparent low bidder for the I-70 Bridges Project in Wheeling the same day the DOT announced the next round of projects for Gov. Jim Justice’s Secondary Roads Initiative.

Swank Construction of New Kensington, Pa. is the apparent low bidder with a bid of $214.65 million. This comes after the project was put out for rebid last July due to the low bid being $100 million overestimates.

The project in Ohio County will shut down portions of Interstate-70 for months at a time in 2020 and 2021.

Rehabilitation to approximately 25 bridges and full replacement of another on the interstate in the county is expected.

Other bids included Trumbull Corporation for $215.37 million, Brayman Construction for $218.37 million, Joseph B. Fay for $234.93 million, and Walsh Construction for $237.70 million.

Dozens of other roads in Ohio County are on the list of the next batch of road work projects by Governor Jim Justice’s Secondary Roads Initiative.

“As we continue our evolution into a maintenance-first organization, Governor Justice asked that our Districts identify the maintenance projects – such as mowing, patching, paving, and more – to be completed by the end of the year,” Transportation Secretary Byrd White said in a statement.

“We remain steadfast in our commitment to providing these types of activities in an open and transparent manner and I can promise you that Governor Justice is committed to making sure we have every resource we need to get this work done.”

The full list of new projects, scheduled to be completed by December 31, 2019, can be viewed HERE.
