Body found in Morgantown identified

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The man found dead along the rail-trail in Sabraton has been identified by Morgantown Police but a cause of death is still being determined.

Dustin Heffner, 35, of Fairmont, was found behind Spring Hill Suites in Sabraton last Thursday.

Heffner was located in a grassy area just before 5 p.m. by Adam Thompson, while he was walking home from work at Burger King.

Thompson told police he saw the man alive and talking to himself about 2 p.m. He thought the guy was high on meth, he said.

When Thompson walked by again a few hours later, Heffner didn’t look like he was breathing and Thompson called 911. Thompson said you could see the Heffner’s rib cage and he watched for a few minutes to see if he was breathing before calling 911.

Police have said there were no signs of foul play.

Heffner’s body was sent to the state Medical Examiner’s Office to determine a cause of death.
