Mercer County 10-year-old injured after wrecking family car

PRINCETON, W.Va. — A 10-year-old Mercer County boy suffered severe head injuries and a broken arm after taking his family’s car and crashing it Tuesday morning.

Authorities said the boy, driving a Nissan Sentra, crashed into a pick-up truck on New Hope Road close to the intersection with Charwood Avenue just after 10:30 a.m. near Princeton.

The Mercer County Sheriff’s Department said the boy struck the pickup truck head-on after losing control of his car. The boy had been driving the car for roughly five minutes and nearly three miles according to law enforcement.

Parents of the boy called 911 shortly after he and the car had been seen missing.

The boy was transported to Princeton Community Hospital.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing and the boy’s name has not been released.
