State secures thousands for 24 airports

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state has secured more than $770,000 in grant funding for the state’s 24 airports.

The West Virginia Aeronautics Commission approved the grants at its meeting earlier this week. The grants include general revenue and special revenue grants; each airport will receive $12,500 each, and three airports will receive a portion of additional Federal Aviation Administration Grants:

— Yeager Airport will receive $28,813 for rehabilitating its runway.
— Raleigh memorial Airport will receive $45,701 for the reconstruction of its taxiway.
— Greater Cumberland Airport will receive $277,777 for rehabilitating its runway and relocating powerlines.

The other grants go toward the West Virginia University Fire Extension, including reimbursement for training at its Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Simulator and maintaining the simulator.

The grants total to $777,291.
