Land for new Herbert Hoover High purchased

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The land for a new high school in Kanawha County has been purchased, Kanawha County Schools announced on Wednesday.

The Kanawha County Board of Education in April approved a resolution to acquire the land, which will be used for a new Herbert Hoover High School.

The current high school building was destroyed in the June 2016 flood.

The new site is in the Givens Fork area between the Elkview exit of Interstate 79 and U.S. Route 119. Elkview Baptist Church owned the land before the purchase.

School system officials are still waiting on the draft environmental assessment from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

FEMA representatives held a public meeting in June regarding the agency’s environmental review of the proposed site for a new elementary school in Elkview.
